The 1st
Steam Meet and Technical Conference

of the Steam Automobile Club of America (SACA)
and the International Association for the Advancement of Steam Power (IAASP)

SACA and IAASP are pleased to co-host the first ever event to bring together on the west coast modern Steam Power Pioneers from the United States and around the world to participate with steam automobile owners and developers, modern steam locomotive experts, and small steam power plant developers and manufacturers, together with other steam power pioneers, engineers, and enthusiasts. In addition to the chance to get together with steam automobile club members in the exciting indoor and outdoor display venue of the California Automobile Museum, the meet and technical conference will feature scientific sessions offering attendees focused time with the experts, analyzing the technical details of the latest modern steam power developments.

The lead Sponsor for the 2012 Steam Meet and Technical Conference is Cyclone Power Technologies. Headquartered in Pompano Beach, Florida, Cyclone Power Technologies is the developer of the award-winning Cyclone Engine - a Rankine Cycle heat regenerative external combustion engine, otherwise known as the "Schoell Cycle".

On display at the event (and available for a close look by conference attendees) will be the U.S. Land Steam Record (USLSR) Team streamliner. Driver and car designer, Chuk Williams, has teamed up with engine developer Cyclone Power Technologies to build this modern steam-powered streamliner. This car will seek to become the fastest steam-powered vehicle on earth at the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in 2012. The speed to beat is 148.308 mph set by Team Inspiration from Great Britain in August 2009. We welcome all steam automobile owners to bring and display their vehicles, whether classic, modified, or new. Space will be available for indoor static display of steamers, engines, and boilers.

Our program will help prepare attendees to create a successful and exciting steam power future. As a venue to discuss foundational and developmental issues, perspectives, progress, methods, and strategies for steam power, this is the best place to learn about the latest steam developments and technology.

Meet and Technical Conference registration prices are:

  • $65.00 in advance for the meet and conference (including three morning receptions, lunches on Friday and Saturday, and the Friday evening reception). Tickets will be $75.00 at the door. Young folk, 15 years and under, are free (when accompanied by an adult). The registration purchase price also includes a one-year family membership to IAASP.
  • The Western Banquet on Saturday evening is $15.00 per person.

    Sacramento, CA 95821

Please fill out the registration form, including your name, return address, phone number, and email address with your payment.

Speakers will be added as long as space remains available. SACA members interested in speaking can contact Ken Kowal or Tom Kimmel. Please let Ken or Tom know if you are bringing your steamer and want to include it in the static display. All non-SACA members desiring to speak at the technical conference are requested to contact Dennis Dudzik (916-717-7354).

Although the conference is open to the public, attendees are reminded that conference material will be highly technical in nature, and geared to individuals with a sincere interest in such topics. For those not quite as interested in steam, the event is located on the American River, less than a mile from the Crocker Art Museum, two miles from Old Sacramento, the California Railroad Museum, the Delta King, and many wonderful restaurants, shops, and activities for the whole family. The California State Capitol is also only a couple miles away.
